Caring For Teak Furniture
OUR outdoor wood collection is made of quality teak wood and teak root structures. The wood has not been treated to prevent staining, colour changes or weathering – it is designed to age beautifully and blend into its natural surroundings. However, should you wish to protect your furniture, clean it after you've had it for a while, or any remove stains that occur, read on...
Cleaning teak furniture
We recommend using Gommaire Teak Cleaner which is designed for use with the natural grey patina of our teak collection. You can buy it from us here

- Start by gently rinsing the entire piece with a hose, then remove excess water with a soft cloth.
- Spray G-CLEANER on the entire surface, allowing it to settle for approximately 10 minutes.
- Use a scouring pad and move in the direction of the wood grain to gently cleanse the item.
- Rinse again to remove all remnants and use a dry cloth to remove excess water.
- Keep your furniture out of direct sunlight to dry for at least 48 hours.
- Repeat the treatment if necessary.
Protecting teak furniture
We recommend using Gommaire Teak Protector, a water-based teak protector that helps shield the surface against water-based stains and slows down the natural greening process. You can buy it from us here

For new furniture, gently wipe the entire surface with a damp cloth and allow to dry for one week before applying the product. This waiting period ensures the best results.
For older furniture, we suggest cleaning with the teak cleaner beforehand. If the cleaned teak appears rough, gently refine the surface using a scrubbing pad. The waiting period is not necessary for older furniture.
- Cover the surface of your workplace before you start.
- Make sure the teak is 100% dry and free of dust.
- Shake teak protector well for at least one minute before use. Apply a thin coat of teak protector with a soft, acid-free cloth or paintbrush.
- Let the teak protector dry for one hour and then apply a second thin layer. Let the teak dry for 48 hours before exposing it to the weather.
- Treat your teak with this teak protector at least once a year. Tabletops should be treated more often.
Removing stains from teak furniture
For more stubborn stains, we recommend Gommaire Spotstop. As with any stain, prompt removal is important for optimal results. You can order this from us by emailing: sales@garden-gate.uk
- Shake the spray bottle thoroughly before use.
- Spray the Spotstop approximately 20cm above the stain and allow to sit for a few minutes.
- To remove the stain, gently brush it out using a brush or lightly dab it with a cloth. (Avoid rubbing with the cloth, as this may cause the stain to be absorbed into the fibres of the wood.)
