Simple Table Setting for a Casual Autumn Dinner
Here are Garden Gate owner Lisa's three steps to creating a simple but welcoming rustic autumnal table setting.
- Choose the right tablecloth
For this casual, rustic setting in the West Sussex barn that Lisa calls home, a large linen tablecloth with black stripes is a natural choice. This particular tablecloth is from Lovely Linen, a Swedish company with a focus on linen as a sustainable material. Linen is not only naturally beautiful and durable but also eco-friendly – it requires less water and fewer chemicals than many other textiles. It also has the ability to age gracefully and become softer over time.
- Add individual place mats or plate holders
There's something about place mats or plate holders that can elevate a table: think about the table – or tablecloth – as a canvas, and the mats or holders as pictures, bringing interest and life to the scene! Above, Lisa has used her own wooden heart plate holders, which she's had for years, but we have similar items in store, such as these leaf-shaped mats (£24 each), pictured below.

- Add a select few accessories
Less is definitely more, so as not to have a cluttered table. Just a few well chosen accoutrements in addition to the glassware and cutlery. Lisa has added three orange raffia pumpkins for a seasonal touch, with rustic beaded wooden candleholders (Prices from £20) from our boutique.

Lisa's glassware is her own, but you could choose alternatives from a selection we have in store, including our coloured collection, pictured below (priced from £9.95 each).
